I remember being a toddler and escaping into the world of Disney with movies like “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King”, and then growing up a little more and escaping into my first “Harry Potter” book at nine-years-old. I watched the original “Star Wars” trilogy last year with a friend of mine – don’t shoot me, I know I’m super late to the party – and also fell in love with that universe. Fantasy is a funny thing, isn’t it? The real world doesn’t have beasts, flying broomsticks and Millennium Falcons, but those stories stay with us. They allow us to feel, and to somehow relate. They inspire us and, despite their high-fantasy coatings, their underlying messages are very, very real. “Beauty and the Beast” taught us that beauty is skin-deep, and character is more important than anything. “Harry Potter” taught us in the importance of bravery, friendship, and also made us all mega envious of fictional characters who got to go to a school with moving staircases and talking portraits.
It’s no wonder, with the powerful underlying messages those stories have given us, that we find them so close to our hearts as we grow. I think that’s why, when decorating for the holidays, I find character decor items to be extra special.
Let’s start with Disney! The “5 Minute Christmas Stories” book is a great deal. I’ve read those stories to my little cousins before, and they’re short enough and captivating enough to hold their attention:
You can’t have Christmas without Charlie Brown. We always invest in blankets during this time of year, so why not invest in this tapestry blanket with all your favorite “Peanuts” characters on it?:
A superhero Christmas with items sold at super low prices. Ladies, we are all wonder woman, so might as well have her stocking:
Last, but certainly not least. I can’t decide which of these “Star Wars” items is my favorite, but I think I’m leaning towards the C-3PO Nutcracker:
