13 Must-Have Shoes for Spring and Summer

Spring is right around the corner! It’s time for gorgeous, warm weather and all the outdoor gatherings that go along with it. Here are some of the Blue Kangaroo editors’ top picks for fab shoes this summer that will stand the test of nature.

A few years ago, a relative of mine who shall remain nameless had a romantic summer wedding outside. The sun set while we enjoyed a warm breeze and sipping wine on a gorgeous green lawn. That lawn is the reason my relative will remain nameless. The whimsy of the evening was almost entirely overshadowed by the fact that I was desperately trying not to face plant from getting my stiletto heels stuck in the grass over and over.

The easiest way to avoid getting your heel stuck is to wear flats. Flats sometimes get a “frumpy” rep because they’re practical, but as you can see, it’s definitely possible to add some pep to your step without wearing heels. This year, pointy-toed flats are trending, as are ballerina details like the ankle tie on the adorable zebra striped BP. flats below.

Wedge heels are also great for outdoor gatherings. The structure of the heel stabilizes you and helps avoid sinking down into the terrain, so they’re a great way to avoid sacrificing height without risking a twisted ankle. This season, designers are using the extra space on the heel to express whimsy, from covering the whole heel in a pattern in this Kate Spade floral beauty to the ombré finish on Stuart Weitzman’s 6-inch showstoppers. Both Andre Assous and Jeffrey Campbell give a nod to ballerina fashion, which I love when combined with a wedge heel, because then I can pretend I’m en pointe all night!

The ’90s have been making a strong comeback for a while now, from dark matte lipstick to tattoo chokers. This season, chunky heels are the latest trend revival. The neutral colors below let you pair these great heels with a wide variety of outfits, from a super girly frock at an outdoor wedding to jeans at the fireworks, and everything in between.
